Is anyone else genuinely unhappy with Meteobridge PRO?

Post by joder »

For years I ran Meteobridge on my own hardware that was connected to the local network and read the network data from the IP logger without issue.

I decided to finally give Meteobridge Pro a go as it would be nice to not have to rely on the IP logger.

Since March I've had nothing but issues of very inconsistent data reporting. The unit is within sufficient range of the Davis Vantage Pro2 weather station.

I've adjusted the RF over and over, tried different antennas, etc. It seems to work for a bit (week or two or maybe even a month) and then once again seems to not consistently report that data.

I love Meteobridge and it's ability to upload rapid fire. I despise the Meteobridge Pro hardware though, especially for over $400.

I'm curious to know if others have felt this way about the Pro. Perhaps I need to return and get a NanoSD instead?

Is it just the drop of RF signal from time to time that makes you unhappy? I ask because you speak about "genuinely unhappy".
Did you try retransmits from the console (which helps when sensor data coming in weak)?

Sufficient range .... Which is?

There are many factors to take into account re reception, many do appear to be over expecting in regard reception when comparing to a Davis console/ISS combination. First lets hear the distance between your Pro and ISS?

The RF signal is the main issue. The console never has issues, however, I know that they are using propriety technology that of course is going to work well. The drop outs are so frequent and sometimes they last until I go in and change the frequency once again. I've been up and down the whole spectrum with no success in maintaining consistent data reporting. The constant tinkering is a bit tiring when you are having to take action nearly every day now.

I've tried the retransmits from the console and doesn't improve anything. The console is probably about 50 feet from the weather station and never has an issue.

The MB Pro is about is about 15 feet away from the weather station.

I was hesitant on getting the NanoSD because if future changeability like if they change the console. Maybe I should have gone this route though.

15 feet. That is sufficient in my books. I completely understand the limitations of developing a non-proprietary radio to receive the Davis station data. I feel that 15 feet shouldn't be an issue though.

Ok so when you change the frequency, up and down the whole spectrum, how are you doing this?

Has to be a simple answer to this one? I don't have that answer but I have run the same hardware directly, via re-transmit, via repeaters literally for years across multiple sites without issue. So what is different here?

Is there any RF interference? Has to be something different here?

Yeah has to be something going on. I've done it 5db at a time when adjusting. Seems to only work properly in the 70-75db range. It could be faulty hardware?

Is there anything untoward in System/Logging page?

Also is the antenna connection tight?

-71db doesn’t seem right for a transmitter 15ft away.

Maybe try another channel for your ISS.
I had problems with wrong readings of wind data
Changed to channel 5 with the ISS and haven't had any problems since.
Maybe there is an interference from a nearby soursce?

When I wasn't getting a connection this AM for a brief period I had:

Code: Select all

logger (30.10.2021 09:02:47): message above repeats 1 time.
logger (30.10.2021 09:07:49): station 0 (Meteostick Vantage), restart meteostick (300 secs no valid rf signal)
logger (30.10.2021 09:17:53): message above repeats 2 times.
Same thing the past 2 days before today.

Antennas are tight.

I am willing to try this. Even though the console has no issue receiving data from the ISS you think this would help?

Below is a current reading.

Code: Select all

#	Sensor	Signal	Metric Data	Imperial Data
0	Outdoor	10s -65db	15.3°C 87% (dew 13.1°C, heat 15.3°C)	59.5°F 87% (dew 55.6°F, heat 59.5°F)
0	Wind	2s -66db	2.8m/s (avg 2.0m/s) 240° WSW	6.3mph (avg 4.5mph) 240° WSW
0	Rain	7s -67db	rate 0.0mm/h	rate 0.00in/h
0	Indoor	43s 95.8%	36.4°C 27% 1014.0hPa (1007.7hPa)	97.5°F 27% 29.94inHg (29.76inHg)

Could you post up a Screen shot of your Station>Primary Station web page?

Signal is very weak for an ISS just 15 feet away, or if the 15 feet the distance to the console?
You might try to set RF threshold to -85 db, which works fine in many cases, unless you have a broad RF noise floor.

I have had MB PRO for repair where the RF plug on the back has got loose and by screwing the antenna to it the whole connector is rotating and by that the internal antenna connection cable winds up and can finally disconnect from the RF board. Is your RF antenna plug having this problem?
