MBP red cap unreliable

Post by plex »

Hi

My old red cap MBP has been running for many years. I think mine is one of the first ones out there.

The internal storage was replaced pretty fast with a ATP NAND DURA 1GB.

This year I had two crashes - the last one today. The device became unresponsive on network and power cycle did help, but only after a couple of retries. The unit is flashing red on boot and then stops flashing and nothing more is happening.

First I tried with another PSU since it’s the second time this year but didn’t help. A couple of retries with the original PSU did help (raspberry pi PSU)

My data seems to be good. Could this be a hardware problem or maybe storage wear?

The Lic# (mbpro-xxxxx) can you give you an idea of of how old the unit is?

What does the Storage say under the Information tab>System?

So the data still comes in ok but the unit itself is crashing/rebooting/not powering up properly?
