NSLU2 updated to V4.2 sensors page error connect socket 127.

Recieved my NSLU and memory stick back from Ambient Weather today where Ed had reflashed the NSLU and the Memory stick. Then tested on his Vantage pro.

However I am still getting the same issue when I try to use it here.


Have tried recycle and reset of both NSLU and WRM200 that I have it connected to via USB. Sensor page still shows ERROR

Also I noted that on weather stations page the drop down menue for device is grayed out ??

Not sure why you have USB HID selected. My NSLU2 is using USB Serial, might be worth a try. (But then, I might be wrong).

If this doesn't work, I think that Boris wants to see the dmesg output since it shows the available interfaces as well

That sort of thing is not a matter of user choice.

I think that maybe I recall that you have a WMR928 / WMR968?
The WMR928 is a USB serial, but the WMR200 is a USB HID device.

Sorry to bump an older thread there but I wanted to provide the conclusion/resolution and a follow-up question to this. Received a new 2Gig memory stick and indeed it worked fine.

to recap

1. Was running fine for 9 months on v2.8.
2. On upgrading to v4.2 via web interface NSLU Meteohub would not restart.
3. Removed memory stick; reflashed via DD (no errors); restarted NSLU and Meteo launched fine hub; would let me assign a station (WRM-200) but on sensor page it noted “error connect socket 127.0.0.1:5555”
4. Recycled station, reset station, recycled NSLU/Metohub no change
5. Reflashed Memory stick using “2 card method and NSLU” (took 2hrs but completed)
5b. Posted here; Boris noted stick errors in log and suggested back stick
6. Contacted support (Ed) from Ambient Weather who suggested I mail in NSLU and memory stick
7. Ed reflashed NSLU and memory stick, tested both devices and mailed back.
8. When I retried them I had same symptom as in step2
8b. Boris re-evaluated logs and saw memory stick errors
9. Ordered new 2G memory stick;
10. Started up with new memory stick (2G v4.2 image); all configured and worked perfect

10. Formatted and ran h2testw.exe (from Tools download section on this site) on old 2gig memory stick and this tool indeed consistently finds an error on my old stick.

It is still possible to verify the test data written up to this point.

Could updating to v4.2 cause a memory stick to go bad or did it expose an existing error that was not seen under older versions ?

Updating Meteohub versions and running a complete data recomputation can make problems with USB sticks visible, that already have been there, but have not been detected so far.

That does actually make perfect sense. Interesting to me that the DD tool did not error out when I imaged the defective memory stick.

Also interesting that Ed did not encounter an error when he tested the unit before shipping it back. Notably I called Ed and mentioned changing the way he retests and the memory stick test tool from your site here.
